Important Announcement: Walchu Ritual at Menri Monastery

This is to inform to all the spiritual practitioners and devotees of Yungdrung Bon tradition that on 11th of December 2021, the Ngagpas of Samling Monastery will be performing the Walchu Ritual (to purify negative energies) of deity Walchen Gekhod in order to prolong the longevity of His Holiness the 34th Menri Trizin Rinpoche, His Eminence Yongdzin Rinpoche, His Eminence Ponlob Thrinley Nyima Rinpoche and other spiritual masters from all schools’ of Buddhism. Particularly this congregation is being held for the purpose of removing the hindrances and specially the restoration of current health crisis of the covid-19 pandemic.

For the Preliminary rites, three senior Ngagpas Yangton Lama Sherab Tenzin Rinpoche (head Lama of Samling Monastery), Yangton Lama Tenzin Wangyal and Ranag Tashi Tsewang have been in strict retreat for last one month. More Ngagpas from Samling Monastery will join them for the ritual. Starting from the new moon day of 9th month on Tibetan calendar (4 December), the Ngagpas will recite and pray the text of mDo Mang and Bhum Nyi-ma Gu-shar in Yogi temple for five consecutive days. On the 5th day of 10th month of Tibetan calendar (8 December), they will prepare Torma offering and on 6th and 7th, they will perform a feast offering in the Yogi Temple.

From the 8th of the same month (11th of December 2021), all the monks of the Menri Monastery will perform the vast and extensive feast offering prayer of Walchen Gekhod in the main temple.

On that very evening, the Ngagpas of Samling Monastery headed by Yangton Lama Sherab Tenzin will perform the main rites of boiling Walchu. On the 9th (12 December), they will perform the auspiciousness ceremony.

The benefit and blessings of Walchu: it will balance the natural elements, it will dispel the outer and inner obstacles, it will prevent any outer negative forces and spirits, it will bring harmony among nagas and other beings, it will dispel the obscuration and defilements and overall it will bring peace and prosperity. There are also other many benefits and advantages.

Therefore, all the concerned practitioners and devotees are requested to note it carefully. Those who are willing to visit the monastery premises are requested to abstain from consuming meat and eggs for three days, i.e., from 6th to 8th of 9th month of Tibetan calendar (9 to 11 December).
